If you haven’t done the math, we’ll do it for you. It’s been five years since the launch of the first Volkswagen ID. model. The Frankfurt Motor Show in the fall of 2019 hosted the world premiere of the ID.3. It was the first step towards the new extended family of battery-powered cars produced by the German brand. Then the range grew year after year, with electric vehicles of all shapes and sizes, with the Germans launching the ID.4, ID.5, ID.6 (on the Chinese market) and the ID.Buzz.
The most recent guest invited to the party is the ID.7, derived in two body versions: sedan and tourer (estate). And it has settled directly into the flagship position within Volkswagen’s EV fleet.
The ID.7 sedan will accompany us during the 16 days of EUROCHARGE by Schaeffler, the tour that crosses Europe from Bucharest to Lisbon and back.

The Longest
The Volkswagen ID.7 sedan is the most imposing model in the family of electric vehicles born in Wolfsburg. Although, if we stick to definitions, it is improper to call it a sedan, because we are actually dealing with a two-volume model (we’ll call it a liftback) whose trunk can be accessed through a large tailgate.
The ID.7 shares the well-known MEB platform with the rest of the ID. range, but it is the longest in the family. With almost 5 meters in length (4,961 mm), the Volkswagen ID.7 is an imposing presence on the road. It is even longer than the current generation Passat. The latter comes exclusively in the Variant (estate) version and measures 4,917 mm in length. The ID.7 is also longer than the ID.Buzz (4,712 mm) and even exceeds the Touareg SUV (4,902 mm).
And to reveal all the figures, here are the complete dimensions for the ID.7: 4,961 mm length, 1,862 mm width and 1,536 mm height, with a wheelbase of 2,971 mm.

The Volkswagen ID.7 can be configured in two body versions and is available with two engine configurations. Currently, customers can choose an ID.7 with a single engine located on the rear axle (286 horsepower) or an ID.7 GTX with two engines, one on each axle (340 horsepower combined).
The entry-level version, the one with a single engine, can be equipped with either a 77-kWh battery (Pro and Advanced versions) or an 86-kWh battery (Pro S version). The maximum estimated range is 614 kilometers in the case of Pro or Advanced models and 708 kilometers for Pro S models fitted with the 86-kWh battery. The same 86-kWh battery pack is also available for the ID.7 GTX, which offers a maximum range of 595 kilometers.
The model joining us in EUROCHARGE by Schaeffler is an ID.7 Pro in the Scale Silver Metallic shade.

Fluid
Equipped with a 286-horsepower, 550-Nm engine, the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds to a top speed of 180 km/h. To all these ingredients Volkswagen has also added an efficiency-inducing aerodynamic coefficient of just 0.23.

The design of the German sedan is fluid, with the specific accents of the ID. range of electric cars. We already have the classic LED strip that joins the front optical blocks, present on any Volkswagen model, and the stylized red LED strip between the rear lights. The ID.Aero concept was the visual muse for this model.

Minimalism
Open the door of the ID.7 and you’ll find the minimalist style that Volkswagen has adopted in its family of electric vehicles. The polarizing element inside is the 15-centimeter diagonal touch display located on the center console. A second, small screen is located behind the steering wheel. The ID.7 is the only vehicle in its class that has a standard head-up display with augmented reality. This projects information into the driver’s field of vision directly onto the windshield, so that they no longer have to take their eyes off the road. The touch buttons for controlling the temperature and volume below the screen are illuminated.

Thanks to the generous wheelbase, the ID.7 offers plenty of interior space, especially for passengers in the back seat. The large trunk has a loading volume of 532 liters, which can increase to 1,586 liters by folding down the rear seats.
